I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin' do me
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you

(repeat verse 2)

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin' do me

God only knows what I'd be without you (repeat to fade)
By Brian Wilson and Tony
Asher. It was the flip side to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (from the "Pet
Sounds" album). It reached #39 in the USA. Paul McCartney called it the
greatest love song ever written. It reached number two in England,
where "Wouldn't It Be Nice" was totally ignored.
Mixing romance with reverence was too much for many radio programmers, simply because the word "God" was in the title. Too religious for pop music, they thought it was sacriligeous.
