The Old Piano Roll Blues   Cy Coben (1949), Cass Daley, Lawrence Cook, Hoagy Carmichael

I  Wanna hear it again, I wanna hear it again,
The Old Piano Roll Blues.
We're sittin' at an upright, my sweetie and me,
Pushin' on the pedals makin' sweet harmony.

When we here rinkity tink and we hear plinkity plink,
We cuddle closer it seems.
And while we kiss, kiss, kiss, away all our cares,
The player piano's playing razz-a-ma-tazz,
I wanna hear it again, I wanna hear it again,
The Old Piano Roll Blues.

This old timey honky tonk isn't really so old-timey at all.   New Jerseyite Cy ("Sweet Violets") Coben wrote it in 1949, and it hit the charts the next year, thanks to recordings by Hoagy Carmichael and Cass Daley and boogie-woogie pianist Lawrence Cook.

One interesting side effect: the tune spurred a fad for player pianos and a glut of such nostalgic ditties as "Music! Music! Music!" and "Dearie."
